About Diamonds Downunder Slots

With a theme that focuses on an Aussie gold rush, Diamonds Downunder combines the finest jewels with the not-so-finest stereotypes of Australia. This means that along with symbols of glittering diamonds, you’ll also find someone who looks uncannily like Crocodile Dundee, a can of lager and, of course, a kangaroo. Clearly this Rival Gaming slot doesn’t do much to discredit cultural stereotypes, but looks aside, how does this slot pay and play?

There are not many symbols on Diamonds Downunder. In fact, there are only 8 paying symbols in total, and whilst that’s usually a good thing, leading to regular wins, none of these pay decent money. The highest paying symbol, the diamonds, pay just 400x for 5 of them, which the lowest and the one you will see the most of, the road sign, pays just 65x. Like many slot fans we would take rare but big wins over regular but small wins any day, and unfortunately Diamonds Downunder falls into the latter category.

Bonuses

There are two bonus rounds here, including a free spins round which is unlocked via a scatter symbol. Three of these will get you 10 free spins, which is decent in itself, but this is trumped by the 100 free spins you can unlock via 5 scatter symbols. All free spins also come with a 3x multiplier, and because of this, and the fact that the base game is relatively generous, if you do manage to squeeze out five of these symbols then you should be in for one big payday. Of course, it isn’t easy to land that many, so don’t get your hopes up.

The main bonus round is a short mini-game, and this is unlocked via the symbol of the treasure map. This is a simple game of click-and-hope. You are presented with a treasure map and a number of possible locations, and it’s your job to click on these at random and find diamonds (triggered following a short animation involving a miner), which in turn unlock cash prizes.

Summary

The visuals aren’t up to much on Diamonds Downunder, and whilst we can usually forgive that in light of a good and rewarding game, this is neither of those things. In fact, after a few dozen spins, seeing the same symbols, and being flashed numerous “win” notifications, even though the return was significantly less than the stake, we were already bored. The bonus rounds are decent and the fact that there is as much as 100 free spins on offer is also a big plus, but whether we would endure 100 spins on these reels is another matter entirely.
